“It grows the way it should rather than what you think it should have” – Kelly Goltz, Kiki – The Hippie Shop
Taking action is something that many of us struggle with. It’s common place to sit on an idea and wait for all of the elements of your vision to perfectly fall into place before you announce your plans and open up for business to the rest of the world.
Unfortunately the longer we wait for everything to be perfect, the greater the chance that your idea will simply never see the light of day.
When I spoke with Kelly Goltz of Kiki – The Hippie Shop for the Self Starter Podcast, Kelly mentioned that many of the decisions that were made along the way were done when things were not 100%. The most important thing was to actually get the business moving and to then continue to tweak, refine and/or add as you go.
Going back to Kelly’s quote above, by getting started and seeing customer feedback straight away and taking action, your business will naturally evolve into what it should be and in many cases it might not even be what you were first expecting.
There are many ways of taking action and depending on your idea, you don’t have to overcommit straight away with a dramatic launch, investment or public spectacle to tell the world what you are doing. It might simply mean opening up a leaner and more simplified version of what you hope to do. It could be small scale direct selling on an individual basis to test interest and feedback as well as build some initial money and confidence when it’s time to take it up a notch.
Theory and action are two dramatically different things that can send you on different journeys.
This will be a reoccurring theme with Self Starter and I will be constantly referencing the importance of taking action as it is one of the critical reasons why many keep talking but never following through.
Have you had an example of just getting on with it despite not having everything exactly where you want it? Was it hard to push through that moment and what were the results?
